NFL camp: Oakland Raiders' biggest training camp questions

RAIDERS TRAINING CAMP QUESTIONS

Here are the five biggest questions for the Raiders heading into training camp:

1.

Can quarterback Matt Flynn pass well enough to move the offense?

Flynn has the pedigree of a winner in terms of intangibles and learned a lot from Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. He needs to prove he can make difficult throws to be a viable NFL quarterback.

2.

How soon can cornerback D.J. Hayden make an impact?

The Raiders' first-round pick at No. 12 was being counted on as an instant playmaker. Abdominal surgery related to an earlier procedure for a ruptured inferior vena cava robbed him of offseason workouts.

3.

Who starts on the offensive line other than Jared Veldheer and Stefen Wisniewski?

Set at left tackle and center, the Raiders will be looking to fill spots at left guard, right guard and right tackle. Hoping to break through as starters are second-year guard Tony Bergstrom and rookie tackle Menelik Watson.

4.

Will dumping the zone blocking system revive the running game and Darren McFadden?

Regardless of who starts, the Raiders will take on defenders head on rather than utilize the stretch-and-cut system that helped reduce McFadden to 3.3 yards per carry last season.

5.

Can the defense come together with so many new faces?

The only returning players who are locks to start are defensive end Lamarr Houston and strong safety Tyvon Branch. Blending the new faces and putting a personality to the unit will fall to coach Dennis Allen, defensive coordinator Jason Tarver and prodigal son Charles Woodson, returning at free safety.
