Lemonade is heading our way. Callan Clendenin, Alex Pasternak and Ben Steidel play The Fillmore on Tuesday opening for Texan electronic-music band Neon Indian.
The San Francisco indie-dance trio ? which moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. ? is making its way from New York to California in a rented SUV with new music in tow. Veteran road warriors, the bandmates say loud music helps the long hours pass.
?We haven?t been talking, we just let the music play,? lead vocalist Clendenin says. ?And we sit on our smartphones till the batteries wear down.?
Bassist and newly minted keyboard player Steidel?s secret of the road: ?You get a power adapter for your lighter so you can put a full power strip on it and everyone can charge their phone and computer at the same time,? he says.
Stopping only for ?cool stuff like Dairy Queen and Chipotle,? drummer Pasternak says they make good time by power-driving through desolate areas of the country. ?
Gearing up for a hometown welcome, Lemonade has a number of surprises lined up for the show.
The band has added projected visuals, and Steidel ? known for bass skills ? will play keyboards.
The set list will be exclusively drawn from the band?s upcoming album ?Diver,? set for a May release. ?
?The record was an impetus for us to change our current live setup,? Steidel says.
The revision was so dramatic, the musicians did not have time to relearn older songs with the new arrangement before the tour.
?It feels good just to play the new stuff and really be pushing forward,? Steidel adds. ?That?s the point of a support tour, getting yourself in front of a bunch of people that might not know who you are yet.?
But those who know and love Lemonade should have no fear: ?We?re not ditching the old songs,? Steidel says. ?We just have to learn how to play them again.?
