NBA guard faces battery charge

DANIEL ?BOOBIE? GIBSON DEFENDS WIFE, FACES SECOND-DEGREE BATTERY CHARGES. By Mass Appeal News

NEW ORLEANS ? A loud-mouth heckler learned first hand that if you mess with Boobie?s wife, you?ll get your ass kicked. NBA point guard Daniel ?Boobie? Gibson turned himself in to New Orleans police on Monday after he got involved in an altercation during the Essence Music Festival earlier this month. He was released on $20,000 bond. Gibson, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, reportedly broke a man?s jaw with a punch following an argument at a nightclub on July 8. He?s currently without a team. Gibson told reporters from TMZ he was merely defending his wife Keyshia Cole?s honor after a heckling fan disrespected her in a ?profane way.? He said their ?safety was threatened? so he ?needed to take action.? Keyshia performed at the festival on July 6.

?It was toward the end of the night,? Gibson said. ?We encountered a couple of people and I don?t know what their motives or intentions were but they came off the wrong way. This guy got real aggressive toward my wife and myself and I did what I felt was necessary to handle the situation.?

Gibson claims he did nothing wrong before adding, ?I have nothing to be ashamed of or hide.? He faces charges of second degree battery. Stay tuned to Mass Appeal for more on this story.
