MXC Finishes 29th At NCAA Championship - Iona College Athletics

LOUISVILLE, KY - The Iona College men's cross country team finished 29th overall at the 2012 NCAA Championship held at E.P. ?Tom? Sawyer State Park. Senior Mitch Goose was the Gaels top performer in 23rd place.

Goose - who is in position to earn his second straight All-America honor and become Iona's fourth-ever multiple winner - crossed the 10k course in 29:48.7 to lead the Gaels.

Junior Matthew Gillespie, who was second for Iona through the 8k mark was unable to complete the event due to injury. Sophomore Jake Byrne became the Maroon & Gold's second finisher in 163rd place with a time of 31:14.7. He was followed closely by classmate Andrew Kowalsky and junior Daniel Clorley (178th, 31:25.0) in third and fourth for the Gaels. Red shirt Freshman Michael O'Dowd was the squad's final scorer (229th, 32:19.2).

Oklahoma State was the national champion with 72 points. They were followed by Wisconsin (135), Colorado (158), Northern Arizona (191) and Florida State (238) to round out the Top 5. The Gaels registerd 626 points in the team score.

Iona finished outside of the Top 10 at NCAAs for the first time since 2001.
