The final deadline for registering for the 4th Conference on Open Access Scholarly Publishing (COASP 2012) is September 1st, so if you are planning on attending the conference you should register at https://webforms.copernicus.org/COASP4/preregistration/index.php as soon as possible.

The preliminary conference program is available at http://oaspa.org/conference/conference-program/, and includes sessions on OA Book Publishing, Alt-Metrics, Data Publication, and Institutional Funding of OA.? In addition, there will be three very exciting keynote presentations from Salvatore Mele (SCOPE3/CERN), Mark Thorley (Natural Environment Research Council, UK), and Jean-Fran?ois Dechamp (European Commission).

Turning Statistics Into Assessment : How can Technical Services Measure the Value of Their Services

?This e-forum will discuss the process of gathering statistics for technical services operations and how they are used to assess the success of technical services. In addition to that, we will explore how libraries are using statistics to measure the value technical services provides to the library and the parent organization or community. The forum will cover a variety of questions including:

  • What statistics are collected by technical services and how are they collected.
  • The differences between collecting statistics and providing meaningful reports.
  • How do technical services utilize statistics to assess the effectiveness of their operations? What benchmarks are used to define success?
  • How do technical services operations factor into efforts to define the value of the library to the parent organization or community?

Hosts:

Buddy Pennington is the Director of Collections and Access Management at the University of Missouri ? Kansas City, leading library operations in collection development, acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, and electronic resources management?

Sarah Simpson is the Technical Services Manager for the Tulsa City-County Library in Tulsa, OK. She previously co-moderated e-forums on communication between Technical and Public Services and on collections of the future.

Oklahoma ACRL Fall 2012 Conference

Library without Walls: Mobile Tech and the Future of Libraries November 2, 2012 at Tulsa Community College SE Campus, Tulsa, OK

This year the Oklahoma Association of College and Research Libraries (OK-ACRL) will be hosting a conference on the themes of mobile technology and the future of libraries. We are looking for presenters for our afternoon breakout sessions.? Submit a 200 word maximum abstract along with contact information of presenters by September 28, 2012 to library.without.walls.2012@gmail.com<mailto:library.without.walls.2012@gmail.com>. Word document attachments or plain text emails are acceptable; please put ?Library without Walls presentation proposal? in subject line.

Final selection of presenters will be made by October 12, 2012.? Preferred (but not required) presentation topics include: Mobile technology initiatives, connecting with students in new ways, or the future of libraries.? Presentations should be approximately 50 minutes in length.
